Meet Asheville Buncombe Futures Movement!
Who We Are
We’re a student collective paving the way for a substance free Buncombe County!
Asheville Buncombe Futures Movement (ABFM) is a youth-led, student collective optimizing youth voices to advocate for a happy, healthy drug-free Buncombe County. We chose “futures” over “future” because this group is not just about any one student’s individual future. This group is about the futures of this generation. We are creating a movement. We are movers and shakers and changing the way we address substance use in Buncombe County.
What We Do
ABFM members are from various high schools across Buncombe County and meet once a month to plan and implement projects in their schools and communities to prevent and reduce youth substance use. ABFM members are respected leaders in their communities and schools. Peers know they can come to ABFM members to learn about teen substance use and prevention.
ABFM is a Safe Space and All Are Welcome
How We Do It
We engage in workshops, programming, events, and summits, within our communities to achieve impact among our peer groups! Our primary aims are to reach out into our communities and help to guide each other to greater self-awareness and self-acceptance while fostering an environment where we can all thrive and advocate for our best lives. We want to help students just like us, become thoughtful and brave, inquisitive and resilient, and engaged citizens.
